To give you a sneak peek of Heaven’s Ant Farm, below are the first 257 words of this science fiction novel. Warm waves of tall grass brush against a peach orchard and a green pasture that surround a large polygon-shaped home. Blue light streams out from the second-floor bathroom window and fades into the early morning sun. Inside the bathroom, a sleepy Professor Yahweh Tabbris stands in front of a tall black glass panel. It…

Space Poop Foils Big Bang Gravity Wave Experiments
Do you remember my blog back in April 2014 about how Cosmic Microwave Background radiation observations at the South Pole would be the first conclusive proof of gravity waves from the Big Bang? Cosmologists hope to show evidence of gravitational waves, those ripples in space time, generated during the earliest moments of the Universe when it expanded—some say faster than the speed of light. Scientists call this period of crazy expansion inflation. Well, things are not going well…

Invisible Suit #2
In Heaven’s Ant Farm, Lucifer uses an invisible suit to help him spy on the villagers in the Garden of Eden on Earth. This passage in the book explains how he did it… Several long minutes pass before the villagers disappear down the trail and it’s safe to descend from his tree hide. Once on the ground, Lucifer unpacks the translucent coveralls, hood, gloves, and boots. He steps into the baggy suit, careful not to rip…
Twitter Pitch Parties
For those of you who don’t know, a Twitter Pitch Party is a specific day for a virtual meeting place where authors can tweet about their books and potential agents will be monitoring to see if a tweet excites them to the point of asking for more information about the book. On the day of a Twitter Pitch Party, agents will be looking for tweets with certain hash tags that denote a pitch for a book…

Character Names
You observant ones and those in the know will by now realize the genesis for how I named the characters in Heaven’s Ant Farm. That’s right, they are the angels associated with the great religions. The meanings are all salient in Heaven’s Ant Farm where science mixes with religion—just like this medieval picture of an angel in what looks like a spaceship. For instance in Heaven’s Ant Farm Abram, the villager who meets Yahweh in the…

Angels
Authors put a lot of symbolism in their stories. These symbols can take many forms–a place, theme, action, even an odd juxtaposition of facts, background or situation to current events. For Heaven’s Ant Farm, I took names from established folklore, myths and religion to create the characters, their moods and drive their action. Now, using the names Yahweh and Lucifer was easy–everyone understands the traditions and belief behind those monikers. And while some thought that my use…
Super Dominance
So some of you challenged my notion and the real world science validity of super dominant genes. Well, I have two responses. First, this is science FICTION. 👽 Second, there is a precedent for how super dominant genes may work in the real world. Consider viruses. Viruses are basically genetic material encased in some sort of protein structure that eventually attaches itself to a cell, which basically suckes them inside. Once inside, the virus’ genetic material is freed…
